I would like to share my appreciation of Jay Marino's Photoshop classes. I've been in the photographic world for over thirty years: First by managing professional Photo Lab's in Houston and St. Louis, where work was destine for the most discerning Ad agencies and professional photographers and then for the last twenty five years as a professional photographer working Ad agencies and industry. In my business world quality is everything. Digital has rocked the foundations of the photographic industry. Traditional roles are changing daily putting more weight upon the photographers shoulders. Its almost impossible today to function in the photographic community without knowledge of Photoshop, whether one does the digital manipulation or directs it; it's a fact of life.
Prior to taking Jay's classes I had read a couple of books and taken a couple of classes, but I learned enough to be dangerous. Jay's approach to the basics of Photoshop is the best I've experience. He addresses the subject like building a pyramid. Very sensibly structured in three sections with three classes in each section; each series building on the previous, layering the instruction to the point, that for most users, it covers all they would ever need to know. The first three classes were phenomenal for me. I felt like I had been given the Midas touch and for the first time I felt confident that I was working with Photoshop the way it was designed. Jay's teaching style is very easy going and very well thought out. He's an expert who's like the guy that lives next door.
I've been telling everyone I talk to how supportive and helpful and enthusiastic you all are at the Packinghouse Gallery. As for Jay's classes... I think he has a great mixture of patience and knowledge, and genuinely seems to enjoy teaching. He shows incredible flexibility in reaching everyone at whatever level they are, and always with good humor. He has gone out of his way to help me learn about my new camera, and, in Photoshop classes, will try different approaches and explanations until each of us understands. I learn a lot in every class, and always have a good time while I'm at it.
